Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamt of who I’d spend the rest of my life with; my Prince Charming.
Right, I’m going to throw it out there and tell you now, it’s going to get a little soppy and cheesy but who doesn’t like a little bit of cheese on this fine sunshiny Monday.
I met Samuel (my now fiancé) at college i think in 2011, I’m terrible with dates! And after much wait on his part (I mean you have to make them wait ladies) we decided to give it a go in 2013, and I have to say we’ve had the most amazing, funny, loving rollercoaster ride since then. Many young girls, and boys ride the rollercoaster of love from an early age, your first crush, your first hug, kiss, and so on and so forth. Now I’m not saying to make your life full you have to find love, I stand up for all the single ladies (and fellas) out there that arnt that fussed if they do or don’t. For me, I’ve always been a soppy romantic, I’ve always dreamt of finding my one and only, the man I want to marry and grow old with sitting on a front porch watching our grandchildren play on the lawn.
I’ve not had many relationships, a few here and there when I was a young girl playing girlfriend and boyfriend, as you do. I’ve only ever been in one long term relationship before, I always tell myself every experience in life is precious, no matter if it was a bad ending, no matter if it breaks your heart, it all adds up to who you are, builds strength and character. I believe those experiences have definitely made me who I am today, I’m a lot more confident and stronger, I know who I am and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I can safely say that Sammy (as I call him) brings out the best in me. In five years we’ve never fallen out, had an argument or anything negative, and it still surprises me to this day. We make each other laugh everyday, I love scaring him around the house, and playing jokes on him, just yesterday I threw cold water on him in the shower. It’s a strange relationship, but I love playing pranks on him! We’re such a great pair and we bring the best out of each other, he gives me confidence and strength to not care or worry so much and I think I keep him a little grounded and focused. As Sams in the navy I only get to see him on weekends, it’s been hard I’m not going to lie, 5 years of only seeing each other little and often is not something to consider lightly. We have a great relationship, and it’s only getting stronger…
Monday 7th May something amazing happened, it had been a fab bank holiday weekend, the weather was boiling, the sun was shining and I was so happy and content. A few weeks before Sammy had said he’ll plan a surprise for the Monday, something fun for us both to do whilst he’s got an extra day home. Every now and again we plan surprises for one another, so this time I didn’t think about it so much, maybe we were going to the beach like we spoke about, but no, we went somewhere beautiful and became one of the most memorable days of my life.
We went to MacDonald kilhey court spa, it was so beautiful and so hot it felt like we were abroad. We had spoke a few times about doing a little spa day so I was thrilled when we drove onto the driveway. Once we booked in, we dumped our bags in our room and hit the pool! After that we had a little light lunch which was super yummy and took a walk around the private gardens.
I spotted this cute little vine arch with a white blossom tree hanging over it, I thought this is a great backdrop for some photos!! I had no idea that within minutes Sammy would take me in his arms, speak some beautiful words to me which I’m going to keep to myself, if you don’t mind. He got down on one knee, took my hand and asked me to make him happy for the rest of his life, he asked me to marry him. And in my complete state of shock and whilst being overwhelmed with happiness I said YES!!
I cant explain how perfect it was, the day was beautiful, the setting and the words he spoke I’ll never forget, and the ring! The ring is so classic and elegant and just PERFECT! We spent the rest of the day with beaming smiles on our faces and giggling whilst calling each other fiancé and fiancée. It was like being back in the honeymoon period, we had a stroll around the lakes, got treated to a massage and had a super yummy meal, where to my surprise everyone congratulated me, then realising that all the staff already knew when Sammy booked the place.
I’m still sat here writing this with such a big smile on my face and a warmth in my heart. Being in love and someone wanting to marry you and spend the rest of their lives with you is just so surreal but such a beautiful innocent moment that I will remember for the rest of my life.
