When it comes to self care over the past years I’ve been quite slack, mainly due to such a busy work life I never really took the time out needed in the evening to really look after myself.

Since the end of last year I really wanted to find that ‘me’ time and so this year I’ve decided to dedicate it to me and give myself some much needed care.

Autumn and winter are my all time favourite seasons, they just scream cosy and are the master of a chilled night in. The only problem is that with the winter months come colder, darker and more miserable nights. This instantly makes me want to jump straight into my pyjamas, get under the quilt and watch lots and LOTS of Netflix. Sometimes this can be great, but other times I wish I could just sit back, relax and change some of my non self caring habits.

Thats why this year I’m taking more consideration into my evenings and spending the time needed to provide myself with a peaceful nights sleep. I thought it would be nice to share with you some of my tips and tricks I love that have made its way into my new evening self care routine.

~ slow the heck down ~

When you wonder why you can’t get to sleep and you start googling reasons, they always say ‘slow down’. This might seem obvious to some and it is fairly straightforward, I mean trying to go to sleep after binge watching your favourite TV shows just will not happen. It’s so important to slow your mind down at night as it is your body, you need to help your brain slow down and chill if you want it to switch off completely.

I’ve found that simple things such as switching my phone off an hour before bed, or at least putting it on silent helps. Reading a book instead of watching a movie or my current fav TV show. These things really do help if you need to catch a few extra Zzzzzzzz.

~ have a soak ~

MY FAV PART!! This is by far my favourite park of the evenings, I never used to give myself any free time at night and I think this can really affect a good nights Zzzzzz. Lately I’ve been experimenting with skincare, shower and bath products more than ever and I can say for sure I’ve found some great ones that have helped me feel fresh, relaxed and ready for a chilled evening! Take that time, run that bath, pop on your fav facial masks and skincare staples, I even treat myself to an EXTRA long shower! Who says a long soak with your favourite bubble bars and bath bombs have to be saved for the weekend! NO-ONE.

Currently I’ve been LOVING ‘pureology hydrate duo shampoo & conditioner’. The shampoo has a lovely scent of lavender which keeps me nice and relaxed. The conditioner has menthol in it and smells and feels super minty fresh, which is one of my favourite scents. I was really surprised to how much they made my hair shine and feel super soft as well as getting a constant whiff of glorious lavender & mint! What could be better right? You can find them in your local TKMax which is where I purchased mine, or at or the Pureology website itself. These will definitely be purchased again, my hair feels salon done without the salon price!

~ write it down ~

Most of the time in the evenings my mind seems to go on overdrive, and I’m left sat in bed making lists and lists in my head, overthinking about what I have to do tomorrow or over the week. It’s safe to say that, that isn’t healthy at all!!

In this case I like to grab a note pad, my planner a sheet of paper would do and write it all down, make my lists and then fully close the book and place on my night stand. This way I can really let go of any thoughts and catch up on some well and truly needed Zzzzzz.

~ get some Zzzzzzzz ~

What could be simpler, right? It’s as easy as 123 all we need to do is get some sleep. I find it a lot easier to enjoy just going to sleep when I’ve created a soothing cosy environment. I love my bedroom, it’s something I’m currently working on as it’s probably my favourite room of the house. Lighting some candles, switching off my phone, turning on the fairy lights, reaching for my bedside staples, putting on my fav pair of pyjamas and diving into fresh duvet covers!!! Oh it’s like a dream!

If your like me and get super effected by your sleep pattern then creating this soothing environment is key! I tend to find that if I have around 5/6 hours sleep I feel very drag and low and if I overlie which isn’t often I feel more tired! So I set an alarm for around 7/8 hours of sleep and I have found that for me, it’s a perfect amount of sleep and makes me wake feeling super fresh and ready for the day!!

Id love to know your tips and tricks on how you self care in the evenings?

Love these tips! My self care routine is similar, definitely including bath time! I like to slap on a face mask, watch some netflix, have a bath, read a book, drink some herbal tea. Writing stuff down is also a really good idea, I’m going to incorporate that in the future 🙂

A self care routine is definitely a must after a long day at work! I agree mostly with the writing part; I like to write down the things that happened throughout the day on my planner. I know it should be used more for to-do lists, but it’s sort of my diary of sorts as well.

I’ve just followed you on Bloglovin’! 🙂 Looking forward to reading more of your writings!

Followed back! I’m really enjoying writing down at the end of the day and this year I’ve tried to focus less on to do lists and more on what’s made me happy today, what I hope for tomorrow!

BUBBLE BATHS! Baths are one of my favorite ways to relax before trying to get a good night’s sleep. Also, when I don’t have to wake up to an alarm in the morning, I like to shut my phone completely off. For me, the feeling of being disconnected is so soothing.

I totally agree! It’s sometimes so freeing just shutting off from the world. I do this quite a lot recently, especially when my mind gets a little fuzzy from blogging etc. You need to enjoy these little things!

Girl I can totally understand what you are saying about your brain going into overdrive into the evening! Bullet journaling has helped me an immense amount as someone who struggles to get to sleep because of overthinking. Really good post, loved reading it! Xx
